According to the new banking supervision law that has been approved in November 2011, the Central Bank of Suriname (Bank) has the obligation to set up a DIS within five years in consultation with the credit institutions or their representative organization.
For setting up this system the Bank send a request for TA to the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Center (CARTAC). This organization identified Mr. Dave Grace to aid the Bank in developing a DIS. In this regard we had different discussions with the consultant on several issues regarding the preconditions for introducing deposit insurance. The consultant will prepare a policy paper which will be discussed with the stakeholders such as deposit-taking institutions and consumer organizations. To present this paper and receive feedback a seminar will be organized which is scheduled for July 2013.
