On Friday May 3rd the Central Bank of Suriname hosted a one-day conference on “Improving Suriname’s position in IT-related indices of the UN, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum”.
Stakeholders from the public and private sector were invited for a joint effort to catch up on lags in this area. The Central Bank sees it as her responsibility to contribute towards a steadier development of the ICT sector, to better serve the public, as well as to improve Suriname’s international position on world competitive indices. Indices that are aspired include the UN Government Index, the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index, and the Network Readiness Index of the World Economic Forum.
The conference envisioned the start of a forum amongst private and public sectors experts to develop a long-term strategy and a roadmap towards the necessary improvements. In this endeavour, Suriname will receive support from South Korea and Singapore. These countries will contribute the accumulated knowledge and experience that made them top performing ICT countries in the world.
