De Newmont deal wordt aanstaande vrijdag getekend en dat is het sein voor Suriname om op de internationale kapitaalmarkt de fondsen te betrekken die haar aandeel zullen financieren. Er is nog wel even tijd, omdat de executive board van Newmont ook het akkoord moet afgeven. Dat wordt verwacht in februari/maart 2014 en daarna zullen de eerste financiën waarschijnlijk pas eind april 2014 nodig zijn.
Monetaire maatregelen per september 2013
In een persconferentie op zondag 15 september zette Governor Gillmore Hoefdraad uiteen: (a) de status quo van de economie, (b) de voorgestelde bezuinigingsmaatregelen van de overheid, (c) het kredietbeleid van de banken in de afgelopen maanden, (d) de nieuwe monetaire maatregelen, en (e) de nieuwe afspraken met spelers op de valutamarkt.
