Governor Gillmore Hoefdraad presented at January 24th 2013 a keynote speech on stability, risk and Suriname’s outlook for the local Chamber of Commerce.
The Governor explained why reforms are necessary to overcome challenges as amongst others high dependence on price volatility for gold and oil, outdated laws and regulation, a limited debt-tolerance due to high external risks. Moreover, the Governor introduced the upcoming Sovereign Wealth Fund, the Government’s participation in gold extraction and the issuing of bonds to raise capital for investments in both gold extraction and the expansion of oil production.
Also the role of the private sector and opportunities for private-public partnerships were addressed.
