Essay Competition

Besides the lecture that was held in connection to the first anniversary of the Numismatic Museum, an essay competition was also organized. There were three (3) subjects namely 'Money in General', 'the History of Money in Suriname' and 'the Numismatic Museum', while there were two (2) age categories. The 1st category was for the age group from 8 until 10 years and the 2nd category for the age group from 11 until 14 years. Each category had certain requirements.

The 1st prize in the first category was a savings account to the amount of Sf 75,000 (now SRD 75) and was won by Roshnie Paltie (9 years old) of Public School Paradise - Nickerie, the 2nd prize was a cake in the shape of a coin and went to Javier Girwar (8 years old) of St. Stephanus School and Nuravni Sallons (10 years old) of Public School Maretraite received the 3rd prize, a Skoinsi play. All prize winners wrote an essay on money in general.

The 1st prize in the second category went to Clarissa Vaseur (13 years old) of Graaf von Zinzendorf School. She received a savings account to the amount of Sf 100,000 (now SRD 100). The 2nd prize a cake in the shape of a banknote went to Errin Hill (11 years old) of Ritfeld School, while Patrick Belliot (14 years old) received the 3rd prize, a Commemorative book of the Central Bank of Suriname. Clarissa wrote an essay on money in general, Errin highlighted the Numismatic Museum and Patrick the History of Money in Suriname.

The results of the essay competition were announced on July 5th, 2003, while the prize distribution took place on July 31st, 2003 at the Numismatic Museum.
